In this pivotal role as Bags and Packs Developer, you will be at the forefront of ensuring we bring our bags and packs to life. Your expertise will be instrumental in working closely with both internal teams and external vendors to maintain the high standards we are known for. Initially reporting to the Chief Product Officer, you’ll play a key role in elevating the craftsmanship and authenticity that define our products. What you’ll be doing day to day: 

  • Product Development: Collaborate with the designer to bring technical expertise to the development of new bags and packs, from concept through to production, ensuring product functionality and performance meet brand expectations.

  • Material Integration: Work closely with the materials sourcing specialist to select and validate components and fabrics, ensuring they align with the product's technical and sustainability goals.

  • Prototyping & Sampling: Oversee the creation of prototypes and samples, ensuring technical accuracy and functionality, while closely collaborating with the designer to realise the creative vision.

  • Quality Assurance: With the team, perform and monitor testing for durability, functionality, and overall product quality, ensuring each product meets the required standards.

  • Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain technical specs, construction details, and bills of materials (BOMs), working alongside the materials sourcing person to ensure the accuracy of materials in production.

  • Collaboration with Design Team: Support the designer in translating design concepts into market-ready products by providing input on technical feasibility, cost, and production methods.

  • Problem Solving: Identify technical challenges during development and propose solutions, while working in tandem with the designer and materials specialist to balance innovation and practicality. Collaborating in wearer trials to test and learn.

  • Supplier & Factory Relations: Maintain relationships with manufacturers, ensuring they meet production requirements, while working with the materials sourcing person to address any material-specific challenges.

  • Sustainability Focus: Actively incorporate sustainable materials and methods in collaboration with the sourcing person to ensure the product range is environmentally responsible.

  • Innovation & Market Trends: Stay current with industry innovations, sharing relevant insights with the designer and sourcing team to ensure the brand’s bags and packs range remains cutting-edge and competitive.

What you will bring:

  • Significant experience in bags and pack development within the outdoor, performance, technical and or lifestyle gear industry.

  • Understanding of consumer pain points and the engineering solutions to solve them. 

  • In-depth knowledge of textiles, textile manufacturing processes, and fabric applications.

  • Strong understanding of industry testing standards for fabrics and trims.

  • Experience using product line management systems is a plus.

  • Advanced in Adobe Illustrator/ technical sketches and file management.

  • Experience in 3D design and development software would be an advantage.

  • A friendly, collaborative and self starting way of working. 

  • Endurance and perseverance to find the most effective solutions for the company.

  • Willing and able to travel.

  • Typical Hours: 8.30am - 5.30pm 5 days a week. With an expectation of three days a week based on our HQ Office in the New Forest. We understand we all have lives, so please talk to us about the flexibility you need to be successful in this role, including part time working.
